Breaking my own rule of never watching a film adaptation before reading its source text, I watched Brian Helgelands A Knights Tale long before I read Chaucers The Knights Tale.In my defence, I had forgotten much of the films content by the time I got around to reading the Canterbury Tales, and I hope to demonstrate that it would not have mattered if I did.
