Stevie Nicks has said she ‘saved’ herself from drugs as she reflected on her substance abuse issues.

Speaking to country music star Tim McGraw on his Apple Music show Beyond The Influence Radio, the Fleetwood Mac star, 73, said her experiences with drugs never ‘defined’ her life.

‘I managed to save myself,’ she shared.

‘I got through some pretty scary moments, but I saved me, nobody else saved me. I survived me. I survived my cocaine. I survived by myself.’

Bravely opening up about her addiction, the music icon explained: ‘I checked myself into rehab. Nobody did that for me. I did it and that’s like with my whole life.’

Stevie’s drug problems began in her partying days, starting out as a recreational activity as the band grew more successful, before quickly turning into something serious. One incident almost left her blind and another burned a hole in the side of her nose.

Once Stevie tackled her substance abuse issues, she decided to use her influence to raise awareness of the dangers of cocaine.

The rock star said if she ever publishes her memoirs, she may omit her use of cocaine and ‘dance over’ those parts to ‘give wisdom out to people’ instead.
