Mr. Tommy Carlton “Buddy” Whelchel, age 83, a lifelong Gainesville resident, passed away Sunday, February 5, 2023.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 pm Tuesday, February 7, 2023 at the funeral home. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 pm Wednesday, February 8, 2023 at Memorial Park Riverside Chapel with interment to follow at South Bend United Methodist Church.
Buddy was born March 24, 1939 in Gainesville, Georgia. He was the son of the late Harold Whelchel and Cassie Chapman Whelchel.
He was the owner and operator of Whelchel’s Barber Shop. He was a member of South Bend United Methodist Church Cemetery.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Ginger Leah Whelchel; brothers, Buster Ray Whelchel, Leroy Whelchel, Dennis Troy Whelchel, Perry Claude Whelchel; sisters, Robbie Stephens, Inez Thurmond, Dortha Roper, and Louise Clark.
He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, June Clark Whelchel of Gainesville; daughter and son-in-law, Stacy Whelchel Louis and Alan Louis of Hall County; granddaughters, Ansley and Ryleigh Louis; sister, Evelyn Brock of Gillsville; and numerous nieces and nephews

Gaffney, SC — Thomas “Tommy” Mitt Whelchel, 59, of 170 Ross Hill Road, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, August 20, 2016 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.
Born in Gaffney, he was the son of the late Harry Mitt Whelchel and Sara Jean Bratton Whelchel. He was a graduate of Gaffney High School and Spartanburg Technical College. He was an avid Clemson Tiger and Carolina Panther fan, loved to farm and ride his Harley Trike and was a member of Midway Baptist Church.
Surviving are a brother, Jimmy Whelchel and wife, Joleen, of Gaffney; two sisters, Mitzi Ellis and husband, Barry, and Tammy Fowler, both of Gaffney; three nephews, Brad Ellis and wife, Dayna, Brandon Ellis and Brady Ellis; two nieces, Brooke Fowler and Brittany Fowler; six great-nieces and great-nephews, Karli, Drew & Wes Ellis, Leighla and Quay Hollis, and Chas Fowler.
The family would like to extend special thanks to the LeMaster family and his countless close friends.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Monday, August 22, 2016 at Blakely Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, August 23, 2016 at Midway Baptist Church with Rev. Vernon Craig, Mr. David Martin, Mr. Cliff Hall and Mr. Jimbo Martin officiating. Interment
